Sandhya Kamble

  • Qualifications/Work Experience: Sandhya has anMA in Sociology from Pune University and joined Shelter Associates in 1993
  • My dream as a child was…to become a teacher, and my dream in college was to be an IAS officer with the Indian Administration Service
  • What I love most about Shelter Associates is… we all work together. The atmosphere is one of friendship between seniors and juniors.I have learned many new skills through Shelter, such as how to use computers. In 2007, I had the opportunity to travel to Indonesia to teach Shelter’s methods of poverty mapping. I have also enjoyed the opportunity to work in different districts of Maharashtra, gaining new experience amongst many communities.
  • My most challenging moment at Shelter was…the KamgarPutla Slum Rehabilitation Project in 2003, which strove to mobilize families in relocating to a new housing project. The community was not prepared to move to a new place and leave where they were from. While it was difficult to convince them, it was successful in the end, and the families are now very happy.
  • My most rewarding moment in community service work has been… the overall satisfaction of the work. Settling families through Shelter Associates and providing them with good housing is very rewarding.
  • My best friend is…my grandfather and my husband (it’s a contest!)
Baandhani ensures maximum representation of the poor & participation to carry the work forward.
