Nudging communities to adopt desired social behaviour

Slum dwellers are usually deprived of critical information which affects their ability to make decisions. To truly empower them, it is necessary to effectively educate our slum communities by engaging them through effective development communication. Our team of community volunteers engage community members on various issues related to sanitation, health, eco-friendly menstrual hygiene and environment. Through immersive discussions with the community, we transform their knowledge, attitudes and practices. Community engagement is a two-way process for sharing ideas and knowledge that empowers the communities to take action. It initiates a dialogue with the communities which makes our interventions meaningful and sustainable”.

CAPACITY BUILDING

Our community volunteers and ULB members are the ones who create the last-mile change in a community. To help them in this journey, we conduct training sessions on conducting surveys, digital apps, using maps and Plus Codes for monitoring projects, and administering various development communication tools. We also conduct mental health workshops for volunteers and ULB members. Using granular spatial data, we allocate a slum pocket to a volunteer that ensures no one is left behind. This puts the volunteers in charge and empowers them to affect change in the community.
